Amigo's Candy
Mr.U&I are always a little weary of Mexican Restaurants after our horrible Pappy’s experience, but – while in Chicago – we decided to hope for the best with Amigo’s on a busy corner in my brother’s neighborhood north of the city. Completely stereotyping upon arrival, we observed that every patron – besides us – was of Latin decent… e.i. the food had to be good. And it definitely was. I got a huge portion of perfectly seasoned breakfast eggs with rice&beans to wrap in corn tortillas and Mr.U loved his burritos (as usual). The only awkward moment was right after we got our food – this little boy walked up to us, chomping on chocolate that was all over his face with a Snickers bar under his arm, and raised two fingers. “Two dollars for the candy bar? No way, man, I’ll go one.” He stared straight ahead – stone faced – then finally nodded. The exchange was made and he walked out the front door while Mr.U shoved the candy bar to the back corner of our table. “Gotta give him credit – he wouldn’t have left without some money…”
